Beardsley Has Become Quite a Home Body

Beardsley is a Handsome Young Cat Who Knows There is No Place Like Home

Phew.  Has it ever hot out there.  We cats love the heat, but really, there are limits. This weather has been way too much for us.  Yes, the smartest thing I ever did was getting rescued from the outdoors by PAWS.  It is cool, safe, and dry in my foster home.  The food is plentiful and so is the petting.

My foster mom sure is a nice lady.  She was feeding me and my siblings outside and we all thought she was really nice.  Then she got my brother Moonpie to go inside and the next thing I know, he is adopted with a home of his own.  Sounded good to me, so I got myself captured by her and now I am inside.  I would love, love to stay with her.  The house has everything I want: windows, toys, food, other cats, and really nice people.  But I have already figured out she really does not have room for me.  So now I need to get myself adopted so I can go home.  After all, “there is no place like home,” as I have learned (ok, we have been watching the Wizard of Oz…I love that lion).

Do you think there is a home somewhere for me?  I don’t need a wizard, just a person or people out there who like me.  I am handsome and strong.  My muscles are amazing because I was very active outside hunting and jumping and climbing and doing all the things a young feline likes to do, activities I have happily traded in for the life of the pampered house cat.

Why have I made this change?  Because I am absolutely in love with being petted.   Pat me anywhere and everywhere, especially my head.  Oh my, I do love to have you rub my head.  And I don’t mind either if you cuddle and hold me for a while.  Actually, I am a pretty chill guy for a one-year-old.  Whatever you want, I want.  I am even mellow at the vet.  They all fell in love with me at the Wakefield VCA because I was so friendly and happy.

Ok, now that you know I am not picky, maybe I should share a few of my must-haves in an adoptive home.  I must have another cat because I am very social.  I was raised with my siblings and I am miserable without the company of other cats.  At the foster home I am very interested in the resident cats.  Actually when I was still outside, I used to come to the door and nuzzle them.  So you get the idea.  I need to have a feline companion or two.

And I might need just the littlest bit of patience because sometimes I can be a bit of a cowardly lion.  Some household noises startle me: doors, vacuums, pots clanking.  I jump out of my skin because it is all new to me.  As for people, well even though I am super gentle and very friendly, some strangers do scare me and I will go to the wall, turn around, and shake when I get scared. So I will need a patient family to teach me that everyone in the house is ok.  As I said, I am sweet and friendly, so I will just need a little extra TLC to get me over the scary moments until the wizard gives me my courage.

So that is me in a nutshell, a really sweet young guy in great physical shape who is a mushy lover of being petted and a sometimes cowardly lion.  Of course I have only been an indoor cat for a few weeks and I am growing and changing daily.  That means you should come and adopt me now. Don’t you want to see how I adapt to life in your house?  Don’t you want to live my new indoor adventure together?  I am game if you are (especially if you are scratching my chin).  So I suggest you call PAWS now and ask for Beardsley.  Say you want to take home that handsome cuddle bug because, as they say in Oz: there is no place like home…there is no place like home.

To learn more about Beardsley, or any of our other adoptable cats, kittens, or dogs, contact PAWS at (781) 246-6111 or PAWSwakefield@yahoo.com. You can also meet many of our available pets at our weekly adoption hours: Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at VCA Wakefield Animal Hospital or at the Danvers PetSmart every Thursday and Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.  Last, but not least, we hold adoption hours at the PETCO in Woburn the first Saturday of every month from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.

Kitten Season is here and PAWS is having a KITTEN PARTY every Saturday at the VCA Wakefield Animal Hospital.  We are currently taking in many pregnant mothers and abandoned kittens and we really need you to come adopt so we have room for more animals in our foster network.  We also need foster homes, so if you are interested in fostering, please contact PAWs to get more information and an application.  The need is great and you can help now by adopting, fostering, or donating (kitten supplies are much needed and so are the funds to purchase them).

PAWS is an all-volunteer animal welfare organization.  Founded by the late Esther Nowell in 1982, PAWS responds to animal-related needs in many communities north of Boston.  Our top service areas include Wakefield, Lynnfield, Reading, North Reading, Saugus, Stoneham, Woburn, Winchester, and Malden.  Our mission is to promote and protect the rights and well-being of all domestic animals and wildlife, and foster a greater understanding of animal welfare and animal rights through education.  PAWS receives no local, state or federal funding.  Our budget is completely funded by our membership dues, adoption services, annual fundraising efforts, and kind donations from friends and members.
