Is this the old Benoit Home? Corner of Main and Bennett.
Nancy Bertrand April 03, 2012 at 05:17 PM
That was a good guess, Lisa, but that's not it. Hint: the house is no longer standing.
Daniel Benjamin April 03, 2012 at 05:35 PM
Corner Richardson & Foster St. ...$30,000 WEATHER vANE.. yes!!
Nancy Bertrand April 03, 2012 at 06:02 PM
Another great guess, Dan, but that's not it either!
Maureen Howland April 03, 2012 at 07:01 PM
This is a total guess Nancy but is it the house that stood where the First Baptist Church is now? I know the original church was at the corner of Crescent and Main until 1871.
Nancy Bertrand April 03, 2012 at 09:09 PM
Good try, Maureen! (The first First Baptist Church actually stood on Salem Street until it was destroyed by fire, to be replaced by the second First Baptist Church standing in the location of part of the Crystal Apartments on the corner of Crescent and Main, until it too was destroyed by fire, to be replaced by the present beautiful church building.) BUT, the building in our mystery photo is actually in another location. HINT: Maureen was on the right track when she was thinking about religious institutions.

The corner of Main and Bryant St?
Nancy Bertrand April 04, 2012 at 01:49 PM
You're on the right track, Louanne, but that's not it either. Here's another hint: it's on the West Side.

Hi, Could it be where the St. Joseph's is on the corner of Albion and Tuttle?
Nancy Bertrand April 04, 2012 at 04:00 PM
Diane, you are SO close! Try again! Let's review the clues: it's a building that is no longer standing. It has to do with a religious institution. It is on the West Side. It is NOT St. Joseph's Church. What else could it be?
Maureen Howland April 04, 2012 at 04:25 PM
The only other religious place I can think of is Temple Emmanuel on Chestnut St. Perhaps the house was not on a corner as it appears but the driveway on the right in the photo? It does appear to be hilly area in back of the barn. Again, just a guess.
Maureen Howland April 04, 2012 at 04:26 PM
Wherever it was it was a lovely property, house and barn. I love the fence. It is so sad that it was lost.
Daniel Benjamin April 04, 2012 at 04:32 PM
Old St.Joes Hall , was beside Church on Murray St. ??
Nancy Bertrand April 04, 2012 at 04:41 PM
Maureen and Dan, you both have great ideas ... but you're not quite there yet! It definitely is on a corner on the West Side. If you went by there today, you'd find a lot of traffic before 9:00 a.m. and around 3:00 p.m. Does that help?

Nancy, I am stuck!! St. Joseph's school is on Gould Street and corner of Emerson, as is the old Convent. Could it be right across the street from me?
Nancy Bertrand April 04, 2012 at 04:52 PM
Diane, you are correct! It was the Blanchard house on the corner of Gould Street and Emerson Street! Good job!

I'm laughing ~ what's that old saying? What your looking for might be right under your nose? Something like that. I am sitting here just getting through making favors for the Easter dinner table and of course I can see the school from my window!! Thanks Nancy for all the fun.
Sara Jacobi April 04, 2012 at 05:56 PM
Well done, Diane! Is this your first time winning the contest, or are you a repeat winner?
Diane Read April 04, 2012 at 08:51 PM
Hi Sara, I'm a repeat, hve won a few. Fun ~ Some, are fun to try and figure out, some, a guess and some I really remember their location! Still use my water bottle.
