Letter to the Editor: Elect A Real School Committee Candidate For Once

A letter submitted by Danvers resident Denise C. Burke.

To the editor:

I live in Danvers and I have for over 11 years now.  Does the entitle me to special treatment in this town?  I am a good mother and have always been involved in my kids lives, events, and schooling (Yes, all 4 in Danvers).  Does that make me any more special than any other parent?  I am sorry my family has not had a store in Danvers Square.  I am sorry my Mother has never worked for the town for 20 plus years.  I do not have a farm in my family for the past 100 years, my family has not be associated with the town for over the past 400 years, I was not born here, I did not attend schooling here and I am not married to a local “townie”.  So with all that said, does that make me any less important than the “other” people in this town who are all that listed above?

Then please explain to me why year after year after year the same “old” people “win” these so called OPEN elections?  And again why is it when an “outsider” such as myself TRY too step up to the plate and make a difference for the town I live in always get shot down and treated so completely different than the local “townies”?  And please do not say this has never happened, for it is happening again this year.  Look at the front page of the Danvers Herald it is truly “favoritism” at its best! It is extremely disturbing the “snobbery” level in so many of our so called leaders and local paper have.

Mr. Thompson may be a good person, good father, happily married to the women of his dreams, have gone to school here, has his kids here, and his fathers business for over 30 years, but really is that what makes a “leader”?  I do not not think so.  It just makes him a local townie favorite.  He has ZERO experience in the office he is applying for, ZERO.  And with just the knowledge for many this “living here, born here, etc...” is good enough for a vote by many.

I hope he knows that the votes he receives will only be because of his “roots” and NOT for his ability to lead.  I honestly do not know why Danvers hold these elections.  Why bother, just sign in again for the new year and if you leave your spot, just simple make sure a “local” applies for I am sure they will get the slot no matter what.

Congratulating the winners and writing about how unfair the election are just useless and insincere words. Let someone have a turn speaking and beating them down is not listening. Your husband won an election in another town with no experience. Did people complain? He doesn't have a degree in education, political science or finance. He had to start somewhere. Why can't you just give Dave a chance? I did not vote for your husband so you don't have to worry about my vote in the future. I did not vote for Dave but I will give him my support for the roll he won. I wish him all the best! Dignity is not whining about loosing or getting upset when people don't agree with your point of view. I don't think you understand this or ever will. I'm done with my comments on this subject.
