Did You Think Your vote Mattered?

Whether you voted on April 1, 2014 for or against the proposed development of the 198-space parking garage and its accompanying 140-unit senior assisted living facility in Wakefield Center, are you aware that a small group of citizens (those in favor of the proposal) have petitioned and plan to have it brought up for reconsideration at the May 5, 2014 Town Meeting?

Essentially, my message here is not to persuade you to vote either for or against the proposal, but to support the premise that our democratic right for all of our citizens to vote their conscience and have it “stick” is in danger of being undermined by a limited number of people who wish to challenge it. I suppose they do have a democratic right to challenge it, but should you be un-interested or un-willing to attend the May 5 Town Meeting to listen, ask questions and express your own personal views, the outcome of the April 1 all-citizen election could be influenced and reversed by a small number of people who are challenging it. Town Warrant Articles 1 and 2 on this subject are at issue here, so pay particular attention to them. The Warrant Articles 1 and 2 for the May 5 Town Meeting can be viewed publically at http://www.wakefield.ma.us/Public_Documents/WakefieldMA_BBoard/047744A6-000F8513

I hope to see many, many Wakefield citizens in attendance on May 5, or at any future continuation of this Town Meeting that may continue the discussion of this subject.
