Obituary: James Andrew Fitzgerald, 74

Wakefield High School graduate and longtime member of Westside Social Club.

Greenfield- James Andrew Fitzgerald, 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday 11/30/13 at the Buckley Health Care Center. He was born on August 15, 1939 in Boston, Ma, the son of Timothy Fitzgerald and Elizabeth (DeCecca) Fitzgerald. Jim attended St. Joseph's School and graduated from Wakefield Memorial High School. He was an all star hockey player and went on to coach several hockey teams from Pee-Wees to Bantoms.

James was known by many as Jim and "Decca".  He, along with his wife Connie, owned and operated Lawn-a-mat. He later established Green Lawn, Inc., a turf management company covering Middlesex County, which they ran for 35 years with the help of their son, Jim, for 15 of those years.

Jim was a member of the West Side Social Club for over 40 years and was active in the 4th of July Parade, fireworks and Children's activities for many of those years.

He was a huge Red Sox fan and was thrilled to see his beloved team finally win a World Series at Fenway Park. He also enjoyed watching the Patriots and Bruins. Over the years he enjoyed bowling, playing golf and playing cards. For many years he enjoyed wintering in Florida in Royal Palm Beach. He loved the sunshine and being outside. He was very much an animal lover, especially dogs and in particular his dog Casey who was his companion for many years.

Among his survivors, Jim leaves his children, Corinne Fitzgerald of  Northfield James Fitzgerald Jr. and his wife Ellen McCabe Fitzgerald and Lorrie Fitzgerald and his former wife, Concettina (Connie) Moriana Fitzgersld all of Wakefield , his grandchildren, Jamie Potter Bennett (the apple of his eye) and her husband Daniel, Neil & Jay Fitzgerald, and Christian Turner, his great grandchild, Jack James Bennett, his brother, Timothy Fitzgerald and his wife Joyce and their 2 sons Scott and Shawn, his Sister Jessica Eiles and her 2 daughters Korie and Kristie.

Jim's wishes were that he be cremated. There will be a memorial Mass held at St. Joseph's Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield, MA on Saturday, December 7th  @ 10 am. Family and friends are welcome. Respecting Jim's wishes, there will be no calling hour. The burial will be private with his family.
