Obituary: Attorney Theodore Regnante, 104

Co-founder of Regnante, Sterio and Osborne LLP Attorneys at Law in Wakefield, served as assistant AG under three administrations.

Attorney Theodore "Ted" Regnante, 104 years, died peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Mary C. (Gandolfo) Regnante. He was born in Montesacchio, Italy, the son of the late Carmine and Giovannina (Finnelli) Regnante. He moved to Lynn at the age of one, he was raised in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School. He lived in Lynn for many years and in Swampscott since the 1980s.
Attorney Regnante attended Northeastern University School of Law evenings and worked days in order to support his mother and three siblings. He graduated from Northeastern in 1931 and was admitted to the Bar the same year. At the age of 22 he was one of the youngest members of the Bar. Attorney Regnante never forgot where he came from and helped Italian immigrants with their legal problems, often for no compensation or payment in the form of produce, eggs, a chicken, or vegetables from the garden. He had a thirst for knowledge and was largely self-educated. He admired Abraham Lincoln; to him he was poor, had limited education but nevertheless rose to become President. Attorney Regnante's motto was "Learn something new each day", and this carried with him throughout his life.
Attorney Regnante practiced law for 74 years and worked until his 90s. He was one of the founders of the law firm of Regnante, Sterio and Osborne LLP Attorneys at Law in Wakefield. Throughout his career he also served the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in many capacities. He was appointed Assistant Attorney General in 1963 and served under three Attorneys General, Edward W. Brooke, Elliott Richardson and Edward Quinn. He served as Chief of Torts, Claims and Collections Division, Board of Appeals. He served as a Public Administrator for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts under 5 different Governors. He was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Lynn Public Library.
He is survived by his two sons and two daughters, Attorney Theodore C. Regnante and his wife Louise of Lynnfield, Dr. Richard Regnante and his wife Rosalie of Sagamore Beach, Barbara A. Printup of Greensboro, NC, and Mary Jane Wall and her husband Tom of Atlanta, GA. He leaves 7 grandchildren 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is the brother of the late Gene W. Regnante, Ida Gallo and Georgina Connors.
His funeral will he held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 178 Humphrey Street, Swampscott. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Arrangements are by the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, Lynn.
