What Are You Doing with the Kids During February Vacation?

February school vacation week can be an exciting time for kids, but a harrowing one for parents.  

Unlike other school vacations, there's not a major holiday to keep everyone busy, nor is the weather typically nice enough for a ton of outdoor activities.  Parents also often have to call in backups if they can't take the week off work, and the combination of new nannies, bad weather, and unplanned days is prime conditions for a epic outbreak of cabin fever. 

Fret not! We've got events listings for things happening throughout the region. 

In Wakefield, there's a week-long school vacation bully boot camp at Beyond Self Defense. The classes are at 1 p.m. each day, and the total cost is $75.

Tootsies Coffee Corner is offering clown cupcake decorating classes on Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - with lunch! Thursday's class is for 6-9 year olds, and Friday's class is for 10-13 year olds. The cost is $20/child which includes a chef's hat & apron, jumbo vanilla & chocolate cupcakes, all the decorating supplies, and a personalized box to carry home your creation. Lunch will be macaroni & cheese with a juice box and one of their frosted cupcakes.   Registration and payment must be made at least 24 hours prior to class.

The Beebe Library is also offering a full week of activities for both younger children and young adults. Check out the full list here.

In nearby towns, there's a few February vacation events at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, and Reading's calendar has week-long arts programming, including a stained glass workshop for those ages 15 and up.
