What's Open, Closed on Thanksgiving Day in Wakefield

There are not too many places open on Thanksgiving Day in Massachusetts.

By John Castellucio and William Laforme

So what's open for Thanksgiving, you ask? Not much.

  • City offices: Closed
  • Schools: Closed
  • Libraries: Closed
  • Banks: Closed
  • Post offices: Closed
  • Grocery stores: Closed
  • Liquor stores: Closed
  • Mall: Closed
  • Retail stores: Unlike most states, Massachusetts retail stores are closed on Thanksgiving
  • Trash and recycling pickup: No, delayed by one day.

A few restaurants and bars are open today -- best to call ahead -- and it likewise varies by establishment for convenience stores, gas stations, Dunkin' Donuts, etc. CVS is usually open.

Haven From Hunger at 71 Wallis Street in Peabody will provide a meal at noon on Thanksgiving. There are also reportedly sufficient volunteers for serving Thursday's meal.
