A few news and events tidbits worth knowing today including community, schools, government and business.

Here are a few things worth knowing today, Friday, May 25, 2012:

Weather: Today, will be mostly cloudy with a high near 75 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. 

Community: Remember, the will be closed over the long weekend as the library switches to a new online catalogue system. The library will re-open on Tuesday with a new online system called Evergreen. You will be able to create personalized, easy-to-remember usernames, instead of always needing to enter your library card number to check on your online accounts. In addition, you will be able to create and even share personal “lists” of favorite books or books you would like to read, as well as keep track of what you have already read. You will now be able to receive pickup notices for holds via text message or email. Another new feature will be the ability to freeze your requests while away on vacation.

Schools: Wakefield Memorial High School will hold its annual Memorial Day Assembly today from 9 - 10:30 a.m. in the Charbonneau Field House. Veterans from every branch of the U.S. Military will be recognized for their bravery and courage in their service to our nation both at home and abroad. The ceremony will be led by Wakefield Memorial High School studentsincluding the National Anthem by the Chamber Singers and “American Heroes; A Tribute to Our Armed Forces” by the Wind Ensemble. The ceremony will conclude with a keynote addresson the meaning of Memorial Day by Afghanistan/Iraq War veteran and graduate of Wakefield Memorial High School Navy Medic Mike Rowe.
