Check Out The Jazzabelles During The ALS Walk Of Hope

Female musicians with big band jazz style to perform on bandstand during the annual Walk of Hope for ALS, Saturday, Sept. 8.

The Jazzabelles, a group of female musicians with a big band Jazz style, will again delight walkers and supporters of the Angel Fund when they perform on the bandstand on Wakefield Common during the 11th annual Walk of Hope for ALS, on Saturday, September 8th. The walk begins with registration at 9 a.m. followed by the start of the walk at 11 a.m. The group will perform around noon as walkers begin to return from the 3.5-mile walk around Lake Quannapowitt.

The walk benefits The Angel Fund, an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research at the Cecil B. Day Laboratory for Neuromuscular Research at UMass Medical Center in Worcester. ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive, always fatal neuromuscular disease which leads to muscle weakness and as it progresses, results in total paralysis and the inability to speak and swallow while the mind and senses remain intact.

Founded in 2006, the band’s repertoire covers a broad spectrum of genres while appealing to a cross-section of audiences and age groups, including ballads and big band favorites, Broadway tunes and Latin selections. With a highly diverse sound and following all along Eastern Massachusetts, the Jazzabelles have performed at popular venues like the Ritz Carleton Hotel and The Lofts at Westinghouse, as well as at various private functions, nightclubs and summer concerts throughout the state.
