The Merrimack Valley Chapter of Hadassah will hold its annual kickoff dinner on Tuesday, October 18 at Temple Emanuel, 7 Haggetts Pond Road, 6pm.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Lawrence Lowenthal, adjunct professor in the Judaic Studies Program at Northeastern University and former National Senior Advisor and Regional Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee. Lowenthal holds a PhD in English Literature from New York University.  He has also taught in universities in Israel and the United States.

Lowenthal’s topic will be ISRAEL: 63 Years of Extraordinary Achievement The Triumphs and Challenges Ahead.

The evening will also celebrate Hadassah’s upcoming Centennial birthday, which culminates with the October 2012 dedication of the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower, Hadassah Medical Center in Israel.

Hadassah was founded 99 years ago by Henrietta Szold and is now the largest women’s organization in the U.S., as well as being the largest Jewish membership organization. The organization raises money for programs in both the U.S. and in Israel, including the world-renowned Hadassah Medical Organization.

The cost is $36 and reservations must be made by October 12. For information about reservations or how to join Hadassah, please e-mail the chapter at HadassahMV@gmail.com.
