Author to Tell History of Howard Johnsons's

On Monday,
Sept. 16 at 7 p.m., author Anthony Sammarco will be at
Wakefield’s Beebe Library to discuss and sign his new book, “A History of
Howard Johnson’s.”

Learn how a soda fountain became an American
icon, as Sammarco traces Howard Johnson’s from its origins in Quincy,
Massachusetts to a popular nationwide chain.

"Howard Johnson created an orange roofed
empire of ice cream shops and restaurants that stretched from Maine to Florida
and from the east coast to the west coast,” writes Sammarco. “Known as the
father of the ‘franchise industry’ he revolutionized the restaurant industry in
the United States and ensured good food and quality prices that brought
customers back for more.”
