What's Up Wakefield? August 31 Edition

A look at some upcoming activities in Wakefield.

Good morning. Here are some things worth knowing in Wakefield this Friday, August 31.

Walk Of Hope For ALS: Coming up on Saturday, September 8, it’s the 11th Annual Walk of Hope to Benefit ALS research. Proceeds benefit the Angel Fund, which is devoted to fighting ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Registration begins at 9 a.m. that day and the walk is at 11 a.m.  To get involved as an individual or as a team, go to www.theangelfund.org or call the Angel Fund at 781-245-7070.  Donations to the Angel Fund can also be sent to 649 Main Street, Wakefield, MA 01880.  Companies interested in sponsorship opportunities are also sought.

Farmer’s Market: On Saturdays between now and mid-October, the Wakefield Farmers Market is held at Hall Park on North Ave. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Save The Date: On Saturday, October 20 from 7 to 11 p.m., local nonprofit group BKP (Bagong Kulturang Pinoy/New Filipino Culture) has a Halloween fundraising dance at the Wakefield Elks Club. The group sends donated books to stock libraries in impoverished communities in the Philippines. Tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for children and will feature dinner by Chef Jacky Roberts of Petit Robert, as well as a Halloween costume contest, auction and raffle, and a DJ and dancing.
