Thomas P. Butler, Dedicated Former Town Administrator, Passed Away At Age 65

Thomas P. Butler, lifelong Wakefield resident and a longtime public employee of the town of Wakefield, passed away overnight on April 29.

Flags are flying half mast today in honor of the memory of Thomas P. Butler, 65, who served as executive secretary, then town administrator for many years in Wakefield. Butler passed away at 2:30 a.m. on April 30 at Massachusetts General Hospital.

A lifelong Wakefield resident and Wakefield High School graduate, Mr. Butler was well-known in Wakefield and held many close friends in Wakefield, including many town employees. 

Mr. Butler began his employement for the town of Wakefield in 1971, and served as both executive secretary then town administrator from the early 90s through 2008, when he was succeeded by current Town Administrator Stephen Maio.

A wake will be held on Tuesday, May 3 from 3-8 p.m. at   A funeral service will be held on May 4 at 10 a.m. at . Burial services will be held immediately after the funeral at St. Patrick's Cemetary in Stoneham.
