State of Confusion: Wakefield's Week on Social Media

Uniting the Wakefield online community, one Facebook or Twitter page at a time.

Welcome to Social Media Saturday, your guide to what you may have missed in the social media world, and our recommendations to help guide you through cyberspace.

Want to get featured in this column? It's simple - just comment/interact with Wakefield Patch on Twitter and Facebook. I'll pick the best moments each week.

Favorite Facebook Moment of the Week:
Was when I posted the link to this week's Then and Now Photo Challenge, Facebook fan Lindsay Govostes said:

"I can't wait for my turn!"

Confused, I wrote back:

"What do you mean, Lindsay? You can guess anytime.. just leave a comment on the Patch article!"

And she responded:

"Sorry- wrong post!"

This made me laugh. Lindsay wins this week's confusion contest... sorry, there's no prize for that. :)

In other Facebook happenings:

  • In response to "Mommy's Juice:" Discussing Your Own Alcohol Consumption with Your Kids, Paula Capuci Berg said: "I was always afraid that we should them that drinking is fun when we had friends over!! LOL My liquor cabinet is locked now that they are teenagers!!" Sounds like you've got your bases covered!
  • In response to where three potential phone scams were reported, Andrew McRae said: "They called me last night, when I challenged the "gentleman" on it, he hung up on me. "Out of area" caller -781/656-0232. Definitely a scam." Very helpful info for those with caller ID! Be on the lookout.

Favorite Twitter Moment of the Week:
While I was trolling around Twitter looking for potential politically active Wakefield residents who might want to blog on the site, I came across @EricJWildman's retweet of an event spotlight for U.S. Senate canadidate Tom Conroy. I asked him, are you a Wakefield resident, and are you going to the event? And he said:

"@WakefieldPatch no won't be there and don't live in wakefield. I reposted b/c I think it is cool that @tomconroysenate will be in town!"

When I asked him if he had any suggestions for bloggers, he said "@WakefieldPatch Anthony Guardia and Betsy Sheeran are good bets." Imagine that, two people we already have signed on as bloggers!

In other Twitter happenings:

  • The blogging conversation got a little out of hand, with @MelrosePatch joining in and asking some other politically active Twitter users for suggestions. Apparently @RT_SConway and @EricJWildman freqently engage in Twitter banter-showdowns, which prompted this from @RT_SConway: "@WakefieldPatch we should schedule a live debate Eric!! The patch could sponsor us hahaha." @MelrosePatch tweeted he was going to grab some popcorn.

Must “Like” Facebook Page of the Week:
Is Greenwood Wine and Spirits' Facebook Fan Page. The liquor, beer and wine store does an excellent job at letting customers know what's on the shelves that day, what contests there are to take part it, and also shares news and events relevant to customers in Wakefield. And the best promotion? They're running a monthly raffle for Facebook fans. This month's prize is a Bud Light Mini-Fridge. You can only win if you're a fan!
