From the Editor: I'm Leaving Wakefield Patch

Editor Sara Jacobi is moving from editor of Wakefield Patch to senior editor in Boston.

Dear Wakefield,

It's been an amazing two years working with all of you. I've met so many residents who have gone out of their way to help me build something special in town, something that never existed before: A dedicated online community for the people of Wakefield, MA. A place to find the news that affects your everyday life here in town. A place to converse about important topics in town. And so much more.

I found out last week that I've been promoted from editor in Wakefield to senior editor in Boston, a switch in both responsibility and location. Of course I'm excited to take on this new challenge and help to lead a team of editors in the city of Boston, but I'm also sad to be leaving behind such an amazing community.

Wakefield has a lot to offer its residents - cute shops, great restaurants, a beautiful lake, a small-town feel just miles from the heart of downtown Boston, etc. But I've learned through my time here that what really sets Wakefield apart is its amazing sense of community. Sitting in town meeting and seeing thousands of hands in the air, together, to vote for a new middle school was a powerful moment that I'll never forget. It showed me just how far you'd each go to do what's best for the entire community.

If you're worried Wakefield Patch will cease to exist in my absense, don't be - the site will continue on with a new editor (specific person to be determined) and you'll have just as much of a place to find news and post your events an announcements as ever before. Until a transition plan is in place, I will continue to serve as your editor, so you'll still be seeing me around town for the next few weeks. I'll be in touch once I know when I'm leaving for good. Maybe we can all meet up to say goodbye.

Wakefield is a special community, and I feel lucky to have been here to help spread news and useful information here in town for the last couple of years. Thanks again to everyone who has ever contributed an event, announcement, news tip or a blog post - you're what helps make the site as robust as it is! Please keep it up, and please keep in touch: sara.jacobi@patch.com.

Thanks,
Sara
