 Today is Monday, January 7th. Here are five things you need to know.

Christmas Tree Pickup: The DPW continues its curbside collection of Christmas trees this week. Collection takes place on your regularly scheduled recycling pickup day. Last week was a blue week, and this week is a red week. Any question, call the Public Works office at 781-246-6301.

Gathering Change: On Wednesday, January 16th, Whole Foods in Swampscott will donate 5% of your pre-tax purchase to Gathering Change, Inc. This Lynnfield-based nonprofit group gathers donated pocket change at various events to help support North Shore food pantries.

Note From The Beebe Library: On Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m., Beebe Library will offer a program on making your older home more energy efficient while retaining its historical character. Sally Zimmerman, Manager of Historic Preservation Services at Historic New England, will present a historic preservation perspective on insulation, window repair, air sealing, and renewable energy options in the older or historic home.

Basketball Fundraiser: The Wakefield Warriors girls and boys basketball programs are holding a comedy night fundraiser this Thursday, January 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Prince Restaurant in Saugus. All you can eat pizza is 6:45 p.m. with a comedy show at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 and available at the teams’ home games at the concession stand – or call, Paul Dickey at 978-423-8237.

Senior Center: The McCarthy Senior Center is holding an After the Holidays Breakfast and Yankee Swap Re-Gift next Friday, January 18th starting at 8:30 p.m. Cost is $3 and reservations are required. Call (781) 245-3312.
