Wakefield Resident Publishes First Book

Emily Holmes, a lifelong town resident and former Wakefield High School English and Theater teacher, recently published "Spirit Legacy," her first book in a planned trilogy.

Emily Holmes, a former English and Theater teacher at Wakefield High School, has published her first book, "Spirit Legacy," the first in a planned trilogy for young adults.

In a recent conversation with Wakefield Patch, Holmes said that she spent a couple of years working on her book, which focuses on a college-aged woman who recently lost her mother and who has acquired the ability to see ghosts after having a dream where she hears the phrase "The gateway is open." A trailer video for the book can be viewed at this link. While the book is geared toward a young adult audience, Holmes noted that she also aims to deliver a story well-written enough to be enjoyed by adults.

"I'm hoping it has some appeal across the board," she said.

Along with trying to write every day, usually in the evenings, Holmes added that she often tries to read other books in her genre. The mother of a young daughter, Holmes indicated that she also hopes to return to teaching somewhere in the area a couple of years from now.

For now, Holmes, a lifelong Wakefield resident and WHS graduate, reports that she is already working on the second book in the Gateway Trilogy, with the goal of publishing it sometime in 2014, followed by the third book possibly in 2015.
