Wakefield Repertory Theatre Presents Annual Awards

Wakefield Repertory Theatre presented its annual awards at the group’s Annual Meeting.

The Ron Chibaro Award is given annually to a person who WRT feels has displayed his/her own form of outstanding artistic excellence in the organization.  This year’s award was presented to the 2012 Wakefield Repertory Youth Theatre staff: Adam Schuler, Katrina Faulstich, Kerry Ann Donovan, Sarah DiTonno, MacKenzie Maloney, Lizz Stepchin, Laura Caton and Brad Robinson.  The WRYT staff is solely responsible for the day to day operations of the group’s summer camp for 5th through 9th graders.  They have managed as many as 50 campers in a 6 week process of daily camp life leading towards a final weekend of performances.  The WRYT staff plans workshops, teaches music and dance, and does everything needed to create a fully staged musical show.  In 2011, their efforts were recognized by the Eastern Massachusetts Association Community Theater with nominations for excellence in Choreography and Stage Management and an award for Best Stage Management in a Musical.

The Tom Merchant Appreciation Award is given annually to a person who WRT feels has given consistently and generously to the organization.  This  year’s award was presented to two recipients (both Wakefield residents): Denise DiTonno and Ron Lomasney.  Denise DiTonno has been part of Wakefield Repertory Theatre’s board for the last 10 years and is currently acting as the group’s Secretary. Ron Lomasney has been a board member for the last 3 years and has been a part of the set construction crew for all of WRT’s recent productions, is the group’s Fundraising Chair and runs WRYT’s Annual Car Wash Fundraiser.  Denise and Ron both discovered a love of theatre through their children, who have been active in WRYT.

The awards were presented by the group’s president, Robert MacRobbie, who said: “We are glad to be able to recognize the dedication and hard work contributed by these talented individuals.  Their commitment has been a vital part of keeping Wakefield Repertory Theatre a vibrant and active source for quality theater productions.“

WRT also welcomed Carol Carney, Lauri Dannenberg, De Kole and Lou Prosperi to thier board and thanked departing board member Peggy Lomasney for her service.
