With arguably the best natural acoustics in town, improvements for the concert hall of the Standing Room Only series (known on Sundays as the sanctuary of the Wakefield UU Church) are easily seen as worth the investment. Now with better lighting and sound capabilities and a cutting edge ticket ordering system, the SRO production team is preparing for a big exhalation as the 2013-2014 season approaches.
“Most of our performers don’t need sound enhancement, but the concert season takes place in the dark half of the year, so lights are a big deal,” observes SRO producer Peter Stickel. “Coordinating ticket ordering, printing and seating has been our biggest challenge, “ continues Stickel, “and our new relationship with TicketPeak is enabling us to better serve our concertgoers and avoid a dizzying level of coordination on our end.”
The fifth SRO season, Back by Popular Demand”, opens on Saturday, October 19, with triple world champion accordionist Cory Pesaturo and his world music trio, Zulu Time. Music lovers can get a preview of this “global music sequel” when Zulu Time makes a cameo appearance at the Arts on Albion festival earlier on the 19th at 4pm.
Other concerts in this season of “encore performances by our favorite artists” include the annual Candlelight Christmas, this year with Holly Zagaria collaborating with the
New England Tenors; another Great American Songbook celebration with New England Light Opera on Valentine’s Day; and a return of the very popular New England Brass in April for the season finale.
A limited number of subscriptions are available online at www.sroconcerts.org or by calling 339-203-9366. Tickets to Zulu Time and other single shows are available online or by concert at Parker Florist.
Standing Room Only concert series is a function of the Music Ministry at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Wakefield. The three Community Ministries of the Wakefield UU Church are: a Welcoming Ministry, creating a safe space and honoring the worth and dignity of each person; a Social Justice Ministry that is an expression of the seven UU principles in the community; and a Music Ministry, touching hearts with the universal language of music.
