Event Spotlight: Auditions for "The Importance of Being Ernest"

Theatre To Go, Inc. will be holding auditions for "The Importance of Being Ernest" by Oscar Wilde (three act version) directed by Alex Lucchesi this week.

Auditions for this play will be held tonight at 7 p.m. and Wednesday, February 15 at 7 p.m. There will be callbacks Thursday at 7 p.m. if needed. All auditions will be held at the Greenwood Union Church, corner of Oak & Main Streets.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script and possibly some improvisational work. All those auditioning are strongly urged to read the script in advance. English accents are required. No appointments necessary for auditions. 

In "The Importance of Being Earnest" Oscar Wilde pits reality against pretense in order to expose the superficiality of Victorian Era Britain. The truths of this classic comedy still resonate in 2012. 

Roles:

• John Worthington, J. P, “Jack” (25 – 30): sincere, responsible and realistic 
• Algernon Moncrieff (25 – 30) “man about town”, great expounder of platitudes 
• Rev Canon Chasuble D.D. (45 60) agreeable and a bit dim
• Merriman* (35 -55) Jack’s butler, steady and a bit apathetic 
• Lane* (35 – 55) Algernon’s man servant, “speaks” through tone and looks
• Lady Bracknell (50 or over) opinionated, authoritative, keen-eyed and immovable 
• Gwendolyn Fairfax (18 – 23) young, impulsive girl, unafraid to challenge authority
• Cecily Cardew (18) flighty, romantic girl, not enamored of reality 
• Miss Prism (45 – 60): Governess to Cecily, strict, devoted to the “old school”, transparent

 *These are very small, but very important roles that require three dimensional portrayal. Time commitment is flexible.
