Annual event is at Wakefield Farmer's Market (Hall Park, off North Ave.) on Sept. 14. Learn more here.

The following was provided by the Wakefield Farmer's Market:

Local artists are invited to participate in the fifth-annual Wakefield Plein Air Paint Out on Saturday, September 14 at the Wakefield Farmer’s Market, at Hall Park, on North Avenue. Artists will paint from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon at a location of their choice anywhere along Lake Quannapowitt. Art lovers will be able to locate participating artists by the red balloons that will be tied to their easels.

From 12 noon to 1:00 p.m., a wet paint exhibit and sale will take place for the art-loving public. The participating artists will be able to display three paintings, in addition to that day’s plein air creations – Wakefield related if possible, but not mandatory.

The participation fee for the paint out is $25 dollars. Participants may register online at www.wakefieldpaintout.org, by mail, or at the paint-out table the day of the event at the Wakefield Farmer’s Market from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Checks need to be made out to the Wakefield Farmer’s Market and mailed to Mary Taggart, at Taggart Studio, 339 Salem Street, Wakefield, MA 01880.

“At the paint out, artists will capture a scene in area that inspires them, such as the lake, a tree full of crab apples, an historic home on Church Street, the gazebo on the Common, or farmer’s market shoppers,” explained Wakefield artist Mary Taggart, of Taggart Studio, who is coordinating this year’s paint out. “It is all for a great cause because the full participation fee will go toward an art and design scholarship for a graduating senior of Wakefield Memorial High School.”

“Art lovers can purchase paint-out works and other paintings by the participating artists at a wet-paint exhibit and sale. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the sale will also go toward the art and design scholarship,” continued Taggart.

Plein air paintings are typically landscape and every-day life paintings that are done onsite, often completed within four hours or less. The paintings are usually fairly small since artists face the challenge of capturing a unique moment in time while the light and weather changes.
