Wakefield, Lynnfield Rail Trail Has State Support

The Lynnfield-Wakefield Rail Trail committee has not released much news in recent years but they want the community to know that the trail is still being planned and will hopefully be completed in the near future, according to an article in the the Daily Times Chronicle website.

Most recently, the committee learned that the project, which entails the construction of a 4.4-mile bike bath on an abandoned railroad bed through the two towns, has been granted approval for state funding. The bike path will receive funding through state DOT Transportation Improvement Project (TIP) program.

Currently, the project is still in the planning stages and town engineers will be working with contractors to see how this will go forward.

The bike path will be part of a 30-mile long bike path that will run along the abandoned Maine-Boston Railway. It will run from Wakefield to Salisbury, passing through eight other towns on the way.
