Lecture Series Resumes Wednesday at Americal Civic Center

Local history lecture series has helped mark the 100th anniversary of Wakefield's Americal Civic Center.

The Americal Civic Center Association will continue its popular lecture series celebrating the 100th anniversary celebration of the historic building at 467 Main Street in Wakefield with a three-part Fall Lecture Series sponsored by the Wakefield Co-operative Bank. The popular lecture series on Wakefield history will resume on Wednesday, September 25th at 7 p.m.

Local historical aficionado John Wall will be the featured speaker at the series’ first lecture “The Wakefield Rattan Company,” which will focus on the rattan industry started by Cyrus Wakefield.

The series will continue on October 16th when Wall will again present a topic of great interest, “The Wakefield Armory;” and on November 13th with the presentation of “The Buildings of Wakefield” by Nancy Bertrand.

The lectures will be held in the Heritage Room at the Americal Civic Center, beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
