Civility Campaign Kicks Off In Town Soon

"Saving Civility" Author Sarah Hacala comes to town in October. Wakefield Alliance Against Violence will also be at farmers market Sep. 28.

The Wakefield Alliance Against Violence is organizing a town-wide campaign in October that will focus on civility.

WAAV President Bob Eldridge discussed the campaign in a recent conversation with Wakefield Patch. The local nonprofit has arranged for Sarah Hacala, author of “Saving Civility” to speak to 8th grade students at Galvin Middle School on October 23, with an event the following night for adults at the Wakefield Community Access TV studio.  The week of October 20-26 will be observed as Civility Week in Wakefield, noted this announcement on Wakefield Patch from The Savings Bank, which is among the campaign’s supporters.

In recent weeks, local residents may have also seen the “Got Civility?” stickers that WAAV has been distributing in local places including the police station, the Daily Item office, the library, and various downtown merchants.

For those who would like to learn more about the organization, Wakefield Alliance Against Violence members will be at the Wakefield Farmer’s Market on Saturday, September 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The group also meets the third Wednesday of the month at 8:30 a.m. at the WCAT studios.
