WHS' Les Miz, a HUGE success!

Wakefield High School recently presented five sold-out performances of Schönberg and Boublil's Les Misérables. The production in The Savings Bank Theater featured a cast of nearly 70 students onstage with dozens more working behind the scenes, and full accompaniment by a live orchestra. The Wakefield High School Theater Arts Department, under the direction of William Karvouniaris, Ana Morel and Thomas Bankert, was one of less than a dozen nationwide who were granted the rights this year to mount a full-scale production of this now-classic musical. Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, it tells the epic story of Jean Valjean, who is imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread and breaks parole to seek redemption in a new life, all the while being relentlessly hunted by the officer Javert.
