Wakefield Rotary Invests in Youth Development

The Wakefield Rotary Club recently donated to 2 local YMCA programs and the Wakefield Boys and Girls Club. $300 was donated to the Burbank YMCA to pay for “camperships,” scholarships for camp for local Wakefield children. Burbank Membership Director Christine Fisher noted, “Lots of families apply for financial assistance every year. This donation will help pay for a child to attend 2 weeks of camp and give he or she wonderful summer memories.”  An additional $300 was donated to the Saugus YMCA to benefit a local teen wishing to attend their summer leadership program.

The club also made an additional $2,000 donation to the Boys and Girls Club. Already, the club has donated $5,000 to purchase computers, desks, and technology for the new program. Club Secretary Suzanne Bowering explained, “Once we found out that the Boys and Girls Club had a waiting line for the computers we bought a few months ago, we knew we could do more.” The additional $2k donation will be used to purchase additional computers for the technology room. “These days, kids need access to computers to do their homework. We are glad to get these additional computers in before the upcoming school year.”
