State Senate Special Election Debate Live on WCAT Tonight

WAKEFIELD – The two candidates on the ballot for the April 1st special election to fill the Fifth Middlesex State Senate District seat formerly held by Congresswoman Katherine Clark, Republican Monica C. Medeiros of Melrose and Democrat Jason M. Lewis of Winchester, are debating this evening, March 12th, in Studio A at Wakefield Community Access Television. The debate will be cablecast live on WCAT’s government channel from 7.30 pm – 9.00 pm. The Fifth Middlesex District encompasses Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, and Precincts 1, 2, 3, and 8 in Winchester.

“If the high level of discourse in the February 12th special primary debate is any indication, this debate should be lively and informative for the voters in the district,” said Producer David Watts, Jr.

The debate will be moderated by Wakefield Town Moderator, and WCAT Board of Directors member, Bill Carroll. Although final details are not yet available, a panel of up to six reporters from newspapers in the district will pose questions to the candidates on a range of subjects important to local voters. The debate is expected to run for ninety minutes to give ample time for the panel to question the candidates.

“The public from the communities in the district are invited to join us at WCAT for the debates,” said Watts, “We will have viewing areas in the station’s front lobby and conference room carrying the live cablecast.”

Verizon customers in many of the communities in the district will be able to view the live debate (check your local cable channel directory for details). A recording of the debate will be provided to each of the other five community access stations for recablecast.
