RAIN OR SHINE! Melrose Boot Camp, Cooking with Holly, and Coutt’s Specialty Food is back!

New volunteers always welcome!
CLICK HERE to sign up directly at Volunteer Spot!
To start your day right, Join Joy of Melrose Boot Camp for a free 45 minute fitness boot camp experience at the market this week! This workout is for men and women of varying fitness levels. Teammates will engage in a variety of challenging strength, agility and cardie-conditioning exercises with a big dose of humor and camaraderie along the way.
Next, come to the “Big Tent” in the middle between 10:00 a.m. and noon as Holly Pierce presents another of her tasty and informative Cooking Demonstrations. This is a great opportunity to get new ideas for how to use all the wonderful produce that is in season right now. As always, you get to try a bite!
NEWS FLASH:  WE WILL HAVE CHEESE SOON!  I am please to announce that Nobscot Artisan Cheese will be with us on a biweekly basis starting August 3! Click HERE to read an article about owner Sue Rübel and this relatively new venture out of Framingham MA.
Side Note: We do hope to have West River Creamery back with us later this year or next year, also - we have room for both!

Bark for More will be with us offering doggie frozen yogurt and other treats, and will also have a bowl of fresh water available for our canine friends.

Our wonderful balloon twister Yarrow and Gina the face painter will be with us. Maybe we can get Gina to use her circus skills and show us some more tricks with the new hula hoops! Note: New chalk will be available for our sidewalk artists.

The market accepts credit and debit cards as well as SNAP/EBT cards in exchange for “Market Bucks,” and, thanks to another generous grant from Melrose Wakefield Mass in Motion, the market will match SNAP/EBT purchases up to $10 per visit so all our neighbors can afford to eat healthy local foods!  Just come to the Market Manager tent to swipe your CC or EBT card.

HEY!!!  GO PLEDGE!!!!  You can do it daily!   Remember how you all voted our market #1 in our category in Massachusetts last year? This year instead of voting for your favorite market - participants are pledging to spend dollars at our favorite farmers market!  SO, let's get started, shall we?  :)  You can pledge to spend money at more than one market each DAY, but let's see if we can keep our Wakefield Farmers Market (MA) on the charts!  Simply go to www.lovemyfarmersmarket.org to select our market and make your pledge!

And now, more vendor news!

We missed Coutt’s Specialty Foods two weeks ago but they will be back this week along with our other biweekly food vendors In Good Taste (Pam’s Salsa) and 7ate9 Bakery (cheesecake!).

Andrea of Kalaidascope Soap will also be with us this week. Along with making wonderful soaps, Andrea is also an esthetician – be sure to stop by with any skincare questions.

We are truly in the midst of the summer harvest time, with fresh-picked local corn starting to make its appearance at the market, along with all sorts of summer squashes, beans and peas, chards, cucumbers, arugula, kale, lettuce, heirloom  tomatoes, beets and…just lots of wondrous produce, also including berries and herbs.  Click HERE for the list of items that Farmer Dave will have -  it includes PEACHES! - and look for all the bounty at Farmer Dave’s and Kelly’s Farm, and get to the market early if you want some of Kelly’s gorgeous cut flowers!

We welcomed Flats Mentor Farm back for the season last week and I know that they will have their usual assortment of really wonderful Asian greens, vegetables, and herbs.  Their basil is amazing, by the way, as well as their bok choy.

Along with produce, Charlton Orchards will have peaches, and as always, will have their pasture-raised beef, eggs, honey, and wonderful wines available for tasting and for sale.

More healthy and tasty pasture-raised fare for you and your family is available from Copicut Farms, with their wonderful poultry and eggs and John Crow Farm, with their fine assortment of pasture-raise beef, pork, and lamb, as well as poultry and eggs.

We will have our usual wide assortment of baked goods available including popovers, pies, and scones from The Popover Lady, all your favorites from Swiss Bakers, classic artisan breads from Mamadou’s, fabulous cookies from Goodies Homemade, and a great assortment of sweet and savory fare from Busy Bee Bakery. Busy Bee also had great ice tea and ice coffee available, as well as freshly squeezed lemonade, and usually has a pasta salad and hot or cold soup on hand, as well.

Samira’s Homemade has, by far, the very best Middle Eastern fare. I have never had such baba gannoush, and even the plain hummus is something special.  And, speaking of special, be sure to stop by Fior D’Italia for pasta, entrees, and really great fresh mozzarella.  And, as always, be sure to get to Globe Fish early!  Their wonderfully fresh seafood usually sells very quickly.

And, don’t forget to get some lemony DD’s Dressing to go with just about everything, from a simple salad to grilled fish or meats.

Finally, Ben’s Sugar Shack offers all things maple and a variety of honey products.  And Maple Cotton Candy, which you have have to try if you have not already!

And again: Carrots! New this year, our market is taking part in the Plant A Carrot Campaign, a program designed to help farmers markets raise funds as well as raise awareness of farmers and farmers markets all across the country.  “Carrots” will be available for sale ($5 each) all season at the market. To learn more and to get your very own Carrot, be sure to stop by the Market Manager tent!
