Did You Grow Up in Wakefield?
Students in a speech class at CUNY Graduate Center are involved in a project which compares people from different regions and their dialects, and analyzes the differences based on the region where they grew up. They are comparing several regions and dialects, including people who grew up in Wakefield. Older residents are preferred, but this isn't a requirement.
You will be asked to do a five-minute interview and a passage recording. The total time involved is about 20 minutes. The interview will consist of some basic questions, nothing too serious, like naming your favorite things. The most personal question you will be asked is something like: Tell us a happy story, sad story or describe a loved one. (People's voices change when something is asked that they have a feeling about.) The interviews can be done by Skype or phone, though Skype is highly preferred. Participants will receive a $15 PayPal or Amazon gift card.
Everything is confidential; we will not be taking any names or any personal information except for your age. The interview will not be shared with anyone else and will only be used for research.
