Boston Marathon runners support ALS research

Eight runners will participate in this year’s Boston Marathon in support of The Angel Fund, a 501 (c)(3) independent charity that benefits ALS research at the Cecil B. Day Laboratory for Neuromuscular Research at UMass Medical Center.

The eight include longtime participants Rich Kennedy, The Angel Fund President who will run his 29th Boston Marathon, Bill Passman who will be running his 25th Boston Marathon, and Meghan Osterlind who is participating in her 12th Boston Marathon.

Joining them will be third-year marathoner Russell Becker; second-year runners Maggie Butcher, Scott Henderson and Lindsey Kennedy; and Chris Higgins who be running the Boston Marathon for the first time.

The Angel Fund team has been raising funds for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) research at UMass Medial Center under the direction of Dr. Robert H. Brown, Jr., a world-renowned researcher in the field of ALS.

“We are proud that we have eight supporters who are running for Team ALS in this year's Boston Marathon,” Rich Kennedy said. “After the tragic events at last year's Marathon, it is an inspiration to watch our team rally and run the 26.2 miles in honor of The Angel Fund and those who were affected with the tragedy of April 15, 2013.”
