Wakefield Rotary Club Donates Special Books

The Wakefield Rotary Club recently donated 5 copies of Sam’s Story, by Molly Anderson. Produced by The Committee For Children, the book, along with the accompanying CD, uses simple narratives and language to help kids up to kindergarten age about touching safety and safety rules.

The donation is the second part of the Rotary Club’s focus on aiding Wakefield in protecting children. On June 10th, the Rotary Club is sponsoring a free speaker event, featuring Marybeth Dwyer of the Children’s Trust Fund, hosted at the Beebe Library. Club President Amy Luckiewicz explains, “Maybeth (Dwyer) is a state expert in training parents and families on how to talk to their kids about safety. I’ve heard her speak many times and I look forward to learning something new myself.” In partnership with the Wakefield Police Department, WAAV, the Beebe Library, the Burbank YMCA, and Wakefield Public Schools, the speaker presentation is free to any family. Dinner and child care are included. Pre-registration is required and available at www.wakefieldlibrary.org.

Beebe Library Director Sharon Gilley noted the book donation as an additional resource following the presentation. “After the speaker presentation, the parents will be welcome to check out Sam’s Story. We have 5 copies, thanks to the Rotary Club, and we hope they all get checked out.” Gilley continued, “The books will become part of our regular collection, and families are welcome to come by anytime and check it out."
