All the News! Live Music with Kevin G. Moore, Knife Sharpening, Flats Mentor Farm is Back!

We are excited to have some market favorites returning for the first time this season! Wakefield’s own and market favorite singer songwriter Kevin G. Moore will be performing between 10 and noon, Patti of On the Edge Knife Sharpening will be sharpening knifes, working out of her truck over by Charlton Orchards’ stand, and we will once again have lovely Asian Greens and more from Priya of Flats Mentor Farm!

Wakefield resident herbalist Sarah Trow of Trow’s Treasures will be with us again, Wicked Good Soap will be back with their lovely bars and scrubs, and our friends from Kittredge Candles will have lots of relaxing summer beachy fragrances in candles, soaps, lotions and roll on perfumes.

Tower Root Beer is back again this week, and will have plenty of their refreshing regular and sugar-free versions of their all-time favorite beverage on hand. NEWS FLASH: Please be sure to welcome our newest vendor Stir It Up Cuisine!  You may have tried their products at the recent Festival by the Lake – that is where I met them.  Wait until you try their hot pepper jelly!

Also, don’t forget to stop by Bark for More and get a treat or two for your favorite canine friends.

For those wondering:  Holly Pierce will be back with us next week with another super cooking demonstration!

SCHEDULE CHANGE:
On the Edge Knife Sharpening will be with us 7/13 and 9/14 this year! Be sure to say a hello to this week's nonprofit guests and get an update on the Wakefield location of a Boys & Girls Club!

Representatives from the Boys & Girls Club of Stoneham: Wakefield Club will be on hand in our nonprofit spot to update you on progress and let you know how YOU can help with this very important project!

Yarrow our balloon twister and Gina our face painter will be on hand to add to the festivities, as well – it should be yet another really great day at the market.  And, the Market Manager FINALLY remembered to get some new hula hoops!

The market accepts credit and debit cards as well as SNAP/EBT cards in exchange for “Market Bucks,” and, thanks to another generous grant from Melrose Wakefield Mass in Motion, the market will match SNAP/EBT purchases up to $10 per visit so all our neighbors can afford to eat healthy local foods!  Just come to the Market Manager tent to swipe your CC or EBT card.

Remember how you all voted our market #1 in our category in Massachusetts last year? This year instead of voting for your favorite market - participants are pledging to spend dollars at our favorite farmers market!  SO, let's get started, shall we?  :)  You can pledge to spend money at more than one market each week, but let's see if we can keep our Wakefield Farmers Market (MA) on the charts!  Simply go to www.lovemyfarmersmarket.org to select our market and make your pledge!

And now, more vendor news!

Charlton Orchards tells us that they will have blueberries, raspberries, peaches, sour cherries, and sweet corn along with their honey, wine, and beef, and I am sure we will be seeing berries, corn, and all sorts of wonderful produce from Farmer Dave and Kelly’s farm, as well, along with cut and potted flowers and herbs.

Copicut Farms will have fresh 3-4 pound chickens this week and a really great grilling recipe to share, and they and John Crow Farm, along with Charlton Orchards, will, as always, offer a great variety of cuts and types of meats and poultry, as well as fresh eggs, all from pasture-raised animals. Globe Fish will have their always spectacular array of the freshest seafood around. NOTE: come EARLY for your seafood!  Michelle has to leave a bit early this week only.

Swiss Bakers will be back this week and for the rest of our season, and Busy Bee Bakery will be offering all sorts of sweet and savory items along with ice coffee and tea and fresh-squeezed lemonade – all really tasty!  Be sure to get some sweet or savory popovers, as well as pies and scones, from The Popover Lady, and some amazing artisan bread from Mamadou’s.  Have you tried their olive bread?  Out of this world.

Samira’s Homemade, with their wonderful Middle Eastern foods and Fior D’Italia, with their frozen pastas and entrees, as well as fresh mozzarella products, will also be with us, and don’t forget to get a bottle or two of DD’s Dressing – great on salads, fish, and more!

Finally, to take care of those sweet yearnings, Goodies has, hands down, the best cookies in the world, and Ben’s Sugar Shack has all things maple.  In fact, rumor has it they might have maple soft-serve one of these weeks. Not sure when, though. We'll have to wait and see!

And again: Carrots! New this year, our market is taking part in the Plant A Carrot Campaign, a program designed to help farmers markets raise funds as well as raise awareness of farmers and farmers markets all across the country.  “Carrots” will be available for sale ($5 each) all season at the market. To learn more and to get your very own Carrot, be sure to stop by the Market Manager tent!

Coming Up:  Melrose Bootcamp on 7/20, 8/3, and 9/7, and our own favorite musician Kevin G. Moore back on 7/27 and 8/24 and more dates, Curious Creatures on 7/27, Banjos will be back on 8/10, Betty's Bounce on 8/17, Chris LaVancher on 9/21 and 10/12, and the Audubon Ark on 9/28. Also, Friends of Beebe Library book sale/giveaway on 9/7 and, on 9/14, the Plein Air Paint Out! And, PAWS just might be bringing some kittens to visit on a date in October...Something for everyone!
