Local Nonprofit Holds Annual Dinner Dance This Weekend

Local nonprofit group BKP, which sends donated children’s books to library in the Philippines, is holding its annual Dinner Dance on Saturday, October 19 from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at the Wakefield Elks Lodge, 63 Bay State Road. To learn more about the organization, visit their website at www.bkpinc.org

There’s a flu clinic in Wakefield on Thursday, October 17 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the McCarthy Senior Center, and Wednesday, October 23 at Galvin Middle School from 7 to 8 p.m. Vaccine is $10 for those without one of the accepted insurances. For more information call 781-979-4127. 

The Arts Collaborative of Wakefield is teaming up with businesses on Albion Street for the Arts on Albion next weekend, October 19 and 20. Free art demonstrations, music, exhibits and creative family activities are planned. Learn more about it here.

The new season of Standing Room Only Concerts kicks off on Saturday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m. with Zulu Time, an acoustic trio specializing in jazz, folk and much more. Tickets are available at www.sroconcerts.org.

On Sunday, October 20 at 10 a.m., local author and historian Bob McLaughlin and the Friends of Pleasure Island will hold a tour of the former Pleasure Island amusement park site – now known as the Edgewater Office Park on Audubon Road. Learn more about it here.
