As the hot summer nights approach, cool jazz will fill the warm evening air on the plaza in front to Beebe Library in downtown Wakefield.
Beginning on May 3 and continuing through September 20, Plaza Jazz will feature free concerts on two Thursday nights a month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The concerts will be performed by students and alumni from Boston’s Berklee College of Music who have been part of Berklee’s independent label Jazz Revelation Records.
The series will feature a mix of styles and an international flavor with musicians that hail from Israel, Greece, India, Brazil, Turkey, Spain, South Africa and the United States. According to Berklee’s Michael Borgida, the concert series coordinator, the featured bands will play music ranging from straight ahead jazz, to pop influenced, to jazz that reflects each performer’s cultural origins.
The series kicks off on Thursday, May 3 with the Arvis Valeris Quartet (Greece).
India’s Sharik Hasan performs on May 17.
On June 6 the series welcomes Eduardo Mercuri from Brazil.
The Yesberger Band from the US will perform on June 21.
Kevin Clark from the US performs on July 5, as Plaza Jazz resumes after the Independence Day holiday.
On July 19, the music of Boston’s Alex Baboian will be featured.
As the series enters the month of August, Daniel Rotem (Israel) will perform on Thursday, August 2.
On August 16 the series welcomes Witness Matiou from South Africa.
Spain’s Javier Garcia performs on Thursday, September 6.
Wrapping up the Plaza Jazz series on September 20 will be Turkey’s Utar Artun.
