Most people use about half of their breathing capacity, at best. When you are stressed, you use even less. One of the biggest favors you can do for yourself is to breathe fully. Deep breathing relaxes muscles, quiets the mind, and gets oxygen into the blood.
Proper attention to breath is the first step to bringing your attention inward. As in yoga & meditation, breathing in a mindful way enables you to concentrate. Your attention is turned inward & you are more easily able to tap into yourself in the present.
So many things in our lives distract us from being in the “now” creating demands on our attention. The focus on the breath & concentration required in Pilates enables you to be totally involved in the moment. With focused concentration, your movements will be more precise, you will be able to create a smooth transition and flow and you will find yourself feeling less stressed.
A Pilates session is a time to place everything else aside & reduce stress while getting an excellent workout!
