I can't believe Stop n Shop won over Market Duniya or any of the other smaller shops around. We really need someplace new though. I'd love to see a Trader Joe's in Malden. Save me the weekly trip down the hell that is Route 1 to Saugus.   more ›

New Asian Restaurant, Sei Bar, Open for Business

Sei Bar, Wakefield's newest restaurant, features Japanese and Thai food, and a sushi bar.

A new Asian restaurant, serving sushi, Thai, Japanese, and other Asian cuisine, opened on Water Street a few weeks ago. Sei Bar, a small, locally owned chain with existing locations in Medford and Everett, has officially opened its doors in Wakefield at 109 Water Street, the location of the former Detorre's Italian Deli and Bella Cucina. The owner and manager of the restaurant, Jen Lin, said he launched his own restaurant business in 2003 after working for years at the Weston Hotel in Boston. He said he decided to expand to Wakefield last year because a couple of regular customers at his Medford location suggested it to him. "They helped me find a Wakefield location," he said. The menu has everything to be expected from a sushi bar, with …

Lynnfield resident Louis Dibiccari runs a martial arts studio in Wakefield and has been offering a fitness program for seniors.

The physical and mental benefits of martial arts can last a lifetime, as countless students out there can attest. And as a growing number of Americans begin reaching retirement age, many are looking for new and interesting ways to stay healthy and active. One instructor who has been working on building a niche among older students is Louis Dibiccari, a Lynnfield resident who has been teaching martial arts for about 50 years. He is currently the owner of Beyond Self Defense in downtown Wakefield. Dibiccari, or "Sensei Louie" as he is known by many, also teaches students who are as young as 6. He considers himself a somewhat old-fashioned instructor who has students in two-person drills and who only awards one belt a year - and no black …

POLL: Sidewalk Cafes In Wakefield?

If approved at town meeting, Wakefield restaurants could soon open up seating on the sidewalks directly in front of their businesses.

If approved at town meeting, Wakefield restaurants could soon open up extra seating on the sidewalks in front of their businesses through the creation of a "sidewalk cafe." On the table for approval at the May 14th Town Meeting are Articles 25 and Article 26, which would set the stage for a brand new "Sidewalk Street Cafe Use Permit" that businesses can obtain to put tables and chairs out on the sidewalk for patrons to dine outside. Permits would be available to businesses each year for a first time fee of $300, and a renewal fee of $75 per year. Approved businesses would also be allowed to sell beer, liquor and wine to their outdoor patrons. The permit standards would create a "pedestrian zone" that ensures 5 feet between the edge of the …
