Brett Tassinari has been consistently dropping his 300 meter times since the season began. It was no surprise to see him come up with another big PR and nearly break 36 seconds with his 36.03, good enough for third place and a trip to the MIAA All State meet. This will be Tassinari's first ever trip to the state meet.
Stephen Robertson went into Friday's meet not knowing how his body would react to the intensity of a 2 mile race. He has been recovering from a nasty bout of pneumonia which has wreaked havoc on his lungs and his training schedule. Instead of going out strong and maintaining a solid pace while wearing down the competiton, Robertson was forced to take it out slow in the first mile to avoid the possibility of his lungs shutting down. In the end, he put himself in a position to win, but allowed Peter Hale of Swamscott to tie him at the line in a photo finish. Hale was awarded the win with a 9:38.133 and Robertson finished in 9:38.136. This close of a race doesn't even happen in a 55 meter dash. Robertson will advance to the state meet.
School record holder Jonathan Miksis ran a strong race in the 600 meters. He led for much of the race and finished 5th in his heat and 9th overall with a time of 1:26.8. Miksis will plan on running the 800 meters in the spring, but will run the occasional 400 meters and 1 mile run, showing his range.
Marc Bucchieri ran another PR in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:44.13. He placed 3rd in his heat and 9th overall. Bucchieri will compete in distances from 800 meters to the 2 mile in the spring.
Sophomore Aaron Lucci continued his excellent sophomore year with yet another big improvement in the 1 mile run. He placed 2nd in his heat with a 3 second improvement, running 4:33 good enough for 9th overall.
James Bridges finished the season Friday night well ahead of his best time from last winter. Bridges finished 19th with a solid performance in 4:42. He will compete in the 800 meters and 1 mile during the spring.
Tassinari is seeded 8th while Robertson is seeded 6th at next Sundays MIAA state meet. The top six places in each event will advance to the New England Championships.

Wakefield established the Wakefield Rattan Company in South Reading, quitting his job as a grocer to devote his full attention to the business of cane. Wakefield worked with furniture made of oak and hickory, filling the frames with fancy rattan patterns. Thanks a lot.
