Jessica Duffy finally got the monkey off her back. Over the past few years, she has been one of the best shot put throwers in the state, but has failed to qualify for the All State meet in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. On Friday night she launched the best throw of her career at 38 feet and placed second at the Division 3 State meet and will advance. She will be joined by teammate Liz Bray, who will make her second trip to the state meet with her third place finish and best throw of 37' 9.75".
School record holder Patty Malone also had a good day in the 55 meter dash. She placed 9th overall with a time of 7.69. Malone will now look to the spring season, where she will comptete in the 100 meter dash.
Sarah Ingersoll was the fourth and final qualifier on the girls side. She compted in the high jump. Ingersoll will also compete during the spring season.
Sophomore Kelly Ledoux-Walsh ran a strong race in the 1 mile run finishing 26th with a time of 5:49. She will compete in the 1 and 2 mile in the spring.
Melanie Miksis ran an excellent race in the 2 mile with a big personal best time of 12:09, placing 10th overall. She will also compete in the 1 and 2 mile in the spring.
The MIAA state meet will be held next Sunday, February 26th. Duffy and Bray will be seeded 4th and 5th respectively. The top six athletes will move onto the New England Championships.
