Who Won the Presidential Debate?

Did you think President Barack Obama or former Gov. Mitt Romney won the first debate?

The much anticipated first presidential debate is over and the pundits have spoken.

But we want to know -- who do you think won the debate?

Did you like former Gov. Mitt Romney's approach or back what President Barack Obama had to say.

Some pundits after the debate praised Romney while criticizing the president for being disinterested and not being prepared. However, others said Obama made great points during the health care debate.

What do you think? How would you grade each candidate? Let us know in the comments section.

As seen on Twitter last night - "That wasn't a debate so much as Mitt Romney just took Obama for a cross country drive strapped to the roof of his car"

Wishful thinking. Debates sway fewer voters than you wish they did. While it is widely regarded to have been Romney's night there are more debates to come. And frankly, how many voters are undecided at this point? Obama will still win and our country will be better for it.
If Obama had gone after Romney's gaffes it would've been a different night. Don't know why he didn't. He's too smart to let those opportunities slip by him again in the next contest.

It's not a question of which voters are undecided. It's a question of which voters are going to show up on November 6. In recent weeks, President Obama's supporters were more energized than Gov. Romney's supporters. Romney held an ever-so-slight lead among independents on crucial swing states. If the debates energize Romney's supporters, he will win the general election. He already has the support of Republicans and a small majority of Independents. They just have to show up. I would say that Romney certainly helped his cause last night.

Actually, 18% of voters (by most polls) are undecided. When you factor in registered Independents (like myself) who are undoubtedly voting for Romney, the pollsters data is heavily skewed to Obama and that is erroneous- at best.

Then one has to take into account the policy of a major national pollster who has instructed the people making phone calls/polling to count "unanswered" calls as votes for Obama. There are going to be alot of very sad Liberals on November 5th.

I'm an independent and have no intention on voting for Flip/Flopper Romney. Wait until the debate on Foreign Policy. Romney has embarrased the US everytime he has gone to another country (rmember his recent 3 country tour). Maybe he should consult with Scott Brown. After all Brown regularly meets with Kings and Queens.

Liberals had their chance.

I voted for Obama and I am truly sorry I did. I got caught up in the excitement 1st black man pres. and all that BS, but I now see my mistake.

Obama has done nothing for me as a middle class family, My health insurance is sky high, $6,500 a year for a family plan with a $3500 deductible and that is my cost after my company pays 50%. Obamacare is not going to help me at all.

I pay my taxes and I am an honest person but it sickens me to see my fellow citizens take my money and enjoy the fruits of my labor while I get up every morning and go to work for them. I watch them use their EBT cards to buy smokes, booze, or even gamble... whatever! Things they DON'T really need!

Gas is ridiculous under Obama it has doubled in price, Romney has my vote we no I need change...and help.

Obama and his lies I am done with them...time for this country to tighten up and force these EBT card holders to GET A JOB!

Do you think it is right to allow all this abuse right in front of our eyes and not have have an ounce of dignity?

If people need the help then I understand that but are you seriously okay with the way these EBT cards are being used? I don't !! it is disgusting and you should be ashamed at yourself for thinking that the is "best for the country."

This is not the "best for our country" it is wrong and I for one speak up every time I see the abuse. So if I see you in any convenient store trying to buy smokes or booze with your EBT card I will say something and make you look like the lazy a-hole you probably are.

Using a basketball analogy:

It is late in the 4th quarter and the team is by 7 points.

At this point in the game the coach is looking for the player with the "Give me the ball Coach - I can do it" attitude."

While there are lots of great players there are only a few like Magic Johnson and Larry Bird who want to be the one with the responsibility on their shoulders to win the game.

Last night Romney demonstrated to America that he "wants the ball."

Obama was more like Wilt Chamberlain or Abdul Jabbar - good players, but never the "go to guy" in a tight game.

Romney won this debate! Obama looked like he was being scolded and didn't know how to respond. This was an opportunity for Romney to convey his agenda to the public and debunk all the rhetoric played out in the adds. I wish more people would really pay attention to the two different strategies the candidates propose and then make an educated choice for the direction our country should be heading now - and the future.

I watched the debate last night and I was shocked and disgusted at the same time.

I sat there and I said to myself....Obama I voted for you! I voted for you because I trusted you, I trusted you to make the change you promise and help the middle class get some relief. I have been a very patience man, I have debated others about how we need to give Obama time and give him a break.

Well after last night I feel I have been played...played for a fool. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

This morning my disgust has turned to anger and I am now to the point where I will do everything in my power to help support Mitt Romney for President. I may not agree with everything Mr. Romney stands for but to be fair I did not agree with everything Obama stood for.

Do you think 4 years is enough time for Obama? I didn't before the debate but I now think he has had every chance to get the economy moving again and he has failed. I am blessed that I do have a job but some of my friends are truly hurting, they need to get back to work, for the love of god we need JOBS, not more government run programs!

One thing from last night that shocked me was how Obama seems to brag about cutting taxes $3,600 for middle-class families — Obama said “maybe they can buy a new car.” Are you seriously that out of touch?

Where is this money? I never got a dime? and excuse me but $3,600 is not going to buy any family a safe car.

Harry,

I am glad you have come to your senses. Obama has been a big mistake and that debate exposed him and the truth. I voted for him last time but I will not make that mistake again.

Like I said before Obama has done nothing for the middle class family. My health insurance is out of this world, so bad in fact that if I am sick I second guess if I should even go to a doctor for fear I will not be able to pay the co pay or the other amounts the doctors charges me.
I see people walk into emergency rooms can barely speak English get all the medical help they need while I wait for hours or even days just to be seen and then I get the bills. Under Obama plans I pay for my medical bills and theirs, take my money (what little I have) and redistribute it.

What has Obama care done for us? nothing I can see except I pay for others now.

This country is in a serious crisis right now and no one gives a crap. Every one seems to want everything for free no one wants to do the work anymore.

I don't have the answers other than it is time for change, Obama has failed, his programs are adding more money to the already ridiculous deficit.

I say give Romney a chance.

Regarding Romney’s Tax plan; the reason he and the president keep going back and forth over this is because they both use different approaches for evaluating Romney's plan.

The President and the Congressional Budget Office use "Static Analysis". That means if you cut a tax then you must offset that cut in revenue with a corresponding spending cut. Their analysis assumes that people WILL NOT change their behavior in response to the tax cut.

Romney uses "Dynamic Analysis of his plan. Under dynamic analysis Romney calculates that with lower taxes, the economy will grow as people spend and invest the money from the tax cut. When the economy grows people make more income and thus pay more taxes which helps to offset the revenue lost to the tax cut.

It has been shown that tax cuts do in fact produce an increase in tax revenue (both under Kennedy and Regan / Clinton). That is how the Clinton presidency erased the deficit.

Hope this was not too wonk-ish for you all, but this explains how they both keep asserting that two contradictory opinions are both correct.

I believe that dynamic analysis is a more correct analysis because people do change behaviors depending on tax policy. Just look at what happens during a tax holiday here in Massachusetts.

As a business grows and makes more money, it too pays more tax to the Fed which in turn would lower the deficit!

I would agree with the "Dynamics" if everything was made in America. Mostly everything was made in America when Kennedy was president and alot more so than today when Reagan was president. Those Dynamics won't result in much growth with all our manufacturing being done in other countries. A purely tax cut approach now would have feeble results in respect to job creation. We just wouldn't be getting the biggest bang for the buck. A lot of the Reagan tax cuts are still in place although modified from the orignal versions, and the Bush tax cuts are still in place. Which begs the question, where is the additional tax revenue and where are the jobs?

If our family paid less in taxes, we would absolutely spend more! In addition to saving, we could do a yearly vacation, buy a nicer car, make home improvements more often rather than once a year. But since obama wants to spread my wealth, I have to spend very wisely and cautiously. Please let Romney win, obama is a disaster and a joke. I didn't vote for him 4 years ago. He disgusts me. You are the victim of the policies he endorses. What does it take for you to figure that out? We are not going back to Bush Wonderland based on one debate performance. Hey mikbee, when our great leader Ronald Reagan took office in 1981, he cut taxes in half for All hard working taxpayers and we had an economic boom for decades which allowed the Fed to collect more tax revenue due to the millions more workers paying taxes as well as company's making more money and paying more taxes.
Dept is caused by over spending of Big Government!
Your argument about cutting taxes causing dept is not based in fact, but rather a liberal talking point to confuse the uninformed.
The great Democratic leader John F Kennedy did the same as well with simaler results.
As far as the Bush tax cuts, did we forget 9/11. This cause a recession at the time, and his tax cuts pulled us out of it. The reason the dept rose under his administration was because he never vetoed a single spending bill by congress because he wanted to show bipartinship. Not a good choice on his part.
Under Obama, the dept has increased by 500,000,000,000,000.00 because the democratically controlled senate has not passed a budget in 4 years which allows Obama to spent freely with not restraints.

Steve, after the Reagan tax cuts in 81, un-employment jumped to 10.8%. In the next 7 years, he raised taxes 7 times and increased the budget deficit by 300% at the same time while increasing the size of the government. Although it's popular to put him on a dais, he was not the fiscally responsible president that he has been remembered as.

Reagan had to scale back his original tax cuts and George Bush had to increase taxes when he took over from Reagan. They were forced to do that because of the alarming increase in the debt. The first thing Clinton had to do was to further scale back the Reagan tax cuts because the deficits were too high. Those tax cuts never paid for themselves. You want to give Reagan credit for the tax cuts, and blame the deomocrats for any increase in spending at the same time. Reagan would have had to sign off on any big spending bills. A budget is a piece of paper with numbers on it but it's worthless if Congress won't vote on it. Don't be fooled by the talk of the lack of a budget. We know we are a trillion short of a balanced budget we don't need an official budget to tell us that. All a budget would is tell us what we already know. The debt has increased under Obama mostly because the Bush tax cuts are still in place.
It's been proven that tax cuts don't pay for themselves. We just can't keep doing the same thing and expect different results. It's been tried, it dosen't work, there won't be another round even if Romney gets elected. The CBO would score the Romney plan for what it is, a budget buster. And nobody would vote for it not even Republicans.

Reagan tax cut plan was changed by Democrats to have the tax cuts phased in over three years (82 - 84). When the complete tax cut was effective ('84) the economy boomed for many years thereafter. Democrats controlled House and Senate from 81 - 87 (fully two thirds of Reagan's administration) which is why domestic spending exploded. Reagan got his defense expension (goodbye Soviet Union) and Democrats took expanded domestic spending.

Well said Michael. Alan, the unemployment jumped thru the roof when Carter raised the top rate to 70 percent. This also set the stage for US company's to move overseas due to higher taxation. Which still happens today because we have the highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world and is a large part of the reason for our high unemployment rate.
Mikbee, when Reagan was building up our military, congress added wasteful spending measures to these same military spending bills dollar for dollar because if Reagan wanted to build up the milatary to collapse the Soviet Union, congress felt it could spend like drunken sailors instead of tightning it's belt.
This caused the dept and the democrats blamed it on Reagan. If Reagan had the power of a line item veto, he could have scraped this wasteful spending.
Also, the dept back then was very very small compared to the dept created by Obama. So much so that the dept Obama has created In just three and a half years, is more then all of our presidents combined.so lets quite with the democratic talking point lies!
