Who Will Run for Kerry's Seat if He's Appointed Secretary of Defense?

Would it be Scott Brown? Congressmen Markey or Capuano? Tell us who you think should run.

The Washington Post is reporting that President Obama is considering appointing Massachusetts U.S. Sen. John Kerry as the Secretary of Defense. There was speculation Kerry would become the next Secretary of State.

Either way Kerry's move to possibly become a member of Obama's cabinet will open up his current seat. Should he be appointed, a special election would be held to finish out Kerry's term, which expires in 2014.

Conversation from the breakfast table this morning to the morning commute has everyone talking - who will run for Kerry's U.S. Senate seat if he's appointed? Could it be Scott Brown? Or maybe Congressmen Ed Markey or Michael Capuano?

Only time will tell, but we know you're talking about it. So tell us, who do you think will run for Kerry's seat if he's appointed? Let us know in the comments section below.

Well, here's an additional question then for readers: how likely do you think it is that Charlie Baker will in fact make another run for Governor in 2014? By the numbers, he lost to Deval Patrick by 6 percent, while 8 percent of the vote went to Tim Cahill, who ran as an Independent.

I'd like to see Charlie run again. A one on one real race may have been different. Cahill is now on trial - Karma. Jerk.

I'd say Baker is definitely running again. He's maintained a semi-public profile since losing last time around

Well, here's another question, who care about who will get a vacant senate seat when soldiers are dying while generals are having orgies?

I call them like I see them. Our political system is an embarrasing disgrace on show for the whole world to see.

I fully believe that Cahill ran just to take votes away from Baker. I want Brown in the senate and Baker to be governor. And as for Petreaus, he is a scapegoat for Obama and Hilary over Libya. The issue is not that he had an affair, its that the truth might get leaked out over Obama/Clinton dropping the ball over the handling and response of the embassy attacks.

As to (1), Cahill is totally consumed with ambition as anyone is who runs for state wide office. Stupid yes but he ran for himself no one else. As to (2) What you want isn't what you're likely to get, see elections of 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012. Deal with it. As to (3&4) Maybe you're right, but today's news is Petreaus insists he did not resign over Benghazi. You can believe that or not. .

Yes Markey's private sector experience driving an ice cream truck prepares him for the senate

True Steve,

Driving an ice cream truck is a bit like "community organizing" , right?

Kerry is the perfect fit for this administration and it's policies towards americans and america itself! What a disgusting scenario! Just what we need.. Another rich, tax cheating, self-interest democrat who hates this country to run it into the ground!

Rumor has it that Mass Dem legislature will change the law back to where Governor can appoint Sentator for remaining term. Deval Patrick will then resign and be appointed by Tim 'Crash' Murray. Don't be suprised.

I could see that, maybe qualify it. In this case there would be a special election in July 13 and that person would have to run again the following November. of 2014 You'd have to decide if it was worth it to raise the money and go through all the BS.

Not a chance. Patrick has said many times he doesn't want it and another special election is just too much good news for too many politicos and pundits and consultants. They love it.

I guess all of this will pan out when Benghazi and the Petreous scandal unfolds with the truth. If Articles of Impeachment come forward. We will have a Lame Duck Presidency as we did in the last half of Clinton. Good Job Voters !

Kersten: If only! The Dems will run another faux independent, its a formula that works for them and plenty of wannabe's to go along with the plan and even more stupid MA HOLES to vote for them.

NaemhOisin What in the of all that is good are you talking about? Are you saying you "compromised" your "values" with Scott? What values would that be? The values that would rather have a sitting liar in the "Kennedy seat"

Cahill. After he beats the trumped-up charges. They never went after treasurer Crane, remember him, with all his Lottery ads and give aways during election time.

We never mattered, remember the "vote" to reduce the state income tax. We don't have a prayer of being heard, afterall, they know what's best for us. So sit down and shut up!

Annie Dukaine should run, after all, look at all of her experience at misrepresentation, isn't that what the Senate is all about. How about her drug dealing assistant from Hampton, NH. She's another Gem of Duval Patrick, Another shinning Star, the commonwealth should be proud of :-)
