What's Up Wakefield? October 2

This Saturday - One Mile Fun Run around Quannapowitt raises funds for WHS cross country and track teams.

Good morning. Here are some things worth knowing in Wakefield for Tuesday, October 2.

Coming up this Saturday, October 6, the second One Mile Fun Run goes from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for any runner over age 14. Race registration is from 9 to 9:20 a.m. on the Lower Common.  Fee is $15 and proceeds benefit the Wakefield High School Cross Country and Track and Field teams. Runners will receive a t-shirt and after the race there will be awards, live entertainment, face painting, food and more.

Twice a month, the Beebe Library hosts “News And Views,” a civil discussion of current events and issues. The next such gathering is tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Drop-ins are welcome, but you can also register by clicking here.

Town Business: Today’s town business includes a special school committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Wakefield Cable Access TV Studio.

Tomorrow is National Walk To School Day, where kids all over America are encouraged to get some extra exercise and fresh air by walking or riding their bikes to school. For more about the day, click here.

To make a correction, I believe this is a 3.3mi race for adults and a 1mile fun run for kids. I would think a kids 1mile fun run would not be limited to over 14 years old as stated. I'm not associated with the race, so perhaps someone who is could also clarify.

The kid's fun run is for any child under (or is it up to) age 14. Any age runner may also race in the 3.3 mile race which is at 10:30.
