Wakefield Residents Opening New D’Amici’s Bakery in Reading
Location would be in the historic M.F. Charles Building. The opening date is not set.
D'Amici's Bakery will soon open in the M.F. Charles Building on Main Street in Reading. Owners and Wakefield residents Sarah and Joe Torretta are planning to apply for building permits in the next couple of weeks and hope to open the bakery early this summer.
According to an update from the Community Services Office, the M.F. Charles Building, which is on the National Historic Register, will undergo major renovations to "return the building to its former glory." The building, built in 1893, will have four major tenants when the rennovations are complete: D'Amici's Bakery, Northern Bank & Trust Company, Bunratty’s Tavern and Orange Leaf.
D’Amici’s was originally opened in Lynn in 1993. They have two other locations in Wakefield and Melrose. The bakery features pastries, cakes, cookies, pies, tortes, panninis, sandwiches, cappucino and more.
"On an average week, the D'Amici's staff bakes 1,000 pounds of cake and decorates with 750 pounds of frosting. D'Amici's Bakery is especially well known for its wedding cakes and we are the exclusive wedding cake provider for many of the area's wedding facilities," the Community Services Office said in an update.
According to Joe Torretta, they have "cake boss style cakes." If you want a 3-D Ferrari cake, this is the place to order it from.
The Reading location will feature indoor seating and a full bakery. They are planning to replicate the Melrose bakery.
"We think it's a good location," he said.
