Things to Know: Scavenger Hunt, More 4th of July Info

News you can use today including community news, children's activities, and 4th of July information.

Here are a few things worth knowing on Tuesday, July 3, 2012:

Weather: Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 86 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. No showers are in the forecast.

Community: Gathering Change, Inc. is holding a scavenger hunt around Lake Quannapowitt on Saturday July 14 at 9:30 a.m. You can gather your own team of 4 or come to the lake and join a team assembled by us.  The "hunter's fee" is $20 per person, which includes a free lunch and prizes for the contest winner.  Gathering Change, Inc. is a 501c3 charity that raises money for neighborhood food pantries. You can read more about the hunt here.

Children's Activities: There's a few good activities for your kids today at the Beebe Library. At 10:30 a.m., Alicia Quintano presents her one-person show, “Under the Stars” for kids in grades 1-4. Alicia brings a unique combination of humor and dramatic interpretation to her performances of personal stories and selections from world folklore. No registration is needed for this program. At 2 p.m., middle schoolers can stop by for Video Gaming Day in the lecture hall. Let me repeat: Free video games. What more could your kids want?

4th of July: What's bigger news this week than the upcoming 4th of July celebration in Wakefield? Just posted today is a preview of the annual Independence Day Parade, which draws a crowd of 50,000+ every year, and details on the July 4th celebration in Boston if you're up for a trip to the Esplanade this year.  And be sure to check out the full list of activities throughout the day here in this article. There's also a full list of all the handicapped parking available during the celebration.
