Things to Know: Free Concert by the Lake Tonight

News you can use in Wakefield today, including: Entertainment, Business, and Community.

 

Here are a few things worth knowing on Thursday, August 2, 2012:

Weather: Today will be sunny with a high near 83 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. 

Business: Several Wakefield businesses are open later on Thursday nights during the summer: Avon Beauty Center, Butterfly Yarns,Gone to the Dogs, (who encourages dogs and their humans to attend) J'AdoreRada BoutiqueSilver Clay GiftsThe Queen's Vaultand Your IT Solutions will each be open until 8 p.m., and some stores will even have refreshments. 

EntertainmentJoin the Middlesex Concert Band as they perform a variety of patriotic and other hits at a free outdoor concert tonight at Lake Quannapowitt at 7 p.m. Song choices will include service medleys, themes from Hogan’s Heroes, McHale’s Navy, The A-Team, and MASH, songs from the hit musical, Miss Saigon, and the haunting “Hymn to the Fallen” from Saving Private Ryan. Community: Get together with your fellow jazz lovers this evening as the Beebe Library presents Berklee's Daniel Rotem as part of the summer Plaza Jazz series. Saxophonist Daniel Rotem was accepted into the Thelma Yellin High School for Arts in Tel Aviv. As a member of  Thelma Yellin's Big Band, Rotem performed at two international events: the IAJE Annual Conference in Toronto and the SAJE in Capetown. Rotem was recognized as an Outstanding Musician by the Israel Defense Force (IDF), a privilege granted only to a handful of applicants every year, and allowed to further pursue his interest and talent in music and jazz. Patch: The end is near. OK, not the end of the universe, but the end of Sara Jacobi as the editor of Wakefield Patch. August 3rd will be my last day.
