Police Log, Jan. 27-29: Suspected Heroin Dealers Arrested

Friday, 6:23 p.m.:
Wakefield police arrested two people they believe are responsible for dealing heroin in Wakefield. Police said they observed Salvador Martinez, 26, of 235 Talbot Ave in Boston, and Jenny Avalo, 30, of 12 Harlow Street in Saugus, pick up a man from Billy's Roast Beef on Main Street in Wakefield in a Toyota Highlander and drive him a few blocks into Melrose before dropping him off again. Wakefield detectives tailed the Highlander from Melrose into Saugus, and after confronting the man who was dropped off and confirming a drug transaction had taken place, Wakefield Police had Saugus Police stop the car in Saugus.
When police arrived at the car, they said they observed Martinez and Avalo attempting to swallow bags of heroin. Only a small amount of herion was found inside the car, but $1,059 in cash was located. Both Martinez and Avalo will be charged with conspiracy to distribute a Class A drug, and possession to distribute a Class A drug out of Malden District Court. The man who was found in Melrose will also be summoned to court and charged with conspiracy to violate a drug law, and possession of a Class A drug.

Friday, Jan. 27:
9:21 p.m. - A bag of clothes belonging to a squatter who was already transported to a shelter in Lynn was turned in to the police department for safekeeping.
2 p.m. - An employee of a business on Main Street reported that he has been receiving threatning emails at a work account. However, the victim has never heard of the person threatening him.
2:49 p.m. - A minor car accident was reported on Main Street. No one was injured.
2:54 p.m. - A Lafayette Street resident reported someone broke into her home during the day and stole two cans of Heineken beer from her refrigerator. The victim said she had left the door to her apartment unlocked.
2:44 p.m. - A check was found lying on Vernon Street. The owner of the check was contacted adn it was returned.
7:51 p.m. - Police responded to an Avon Street resident for a female who refused to leave a home when asked. Police separated the two individuals for the evening.
9:28 p.m. - An employee of the Walgreens on Main Street reported seeing a man allegedly steal razor blades from the store. The witness said he observed a white male in hi slate 20s, about 5'9" with a thin build enter the store and steal several packages of razor blades. The man was also described as wearing a blue jacket, jeans, and work boots. He left the store on foot. However, police were unable to locate the suspect.
9:57 p.m. - A man was reported for hanging around infront of a business on Main Street while intoxicated. Wakefield Police transported the man home.
10:15 p.m. - A female reported being followed by a man into an Albion Street store. The woman said that after she went into the store, she saw him start to follow another female. The man was described as a white male in his 20s, with blond wavy hair, wearing fitted khaki pants, and a blue sweater. Police were unable to locate the man in the area.
Saturday, January 28:
10:36 a.m. - A security guard at Shaw's Supermarkets on Water Street reported that a man had entered the store around 7 p.m. on the previous night, filled up a carriage with almost $500 with of meat items, and walked out of the store without paying. That was at about 7 p.m. The man was described as a white male with in his 40s with a heavy build, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
2:35 p.m. - A caller reported seeing suspicious behavior while driving along Main Street. The caller said she saw the driver of a black minivan pull over, speak with two boys, then saw the two boys enter the van. However, police were unable to locate the van in the area.
2:47 p.m. - A lost dog was found and returned to its owner.
6:54 p.m. - A Wakefield Ave resident reported a pickaxe hanging on a wall in the apartment building's community laundry room was threatening. Another tenant took the pickaxe into his own apartment until the landlord could be contacted about the problem.
Sunday, January 29:
12:06 a.m. - Several instances of vandalism were reported overnight on January 28th to the 29th. In several of the cases, a white SUV was seen leaving the area. A resident of Green Street reported that someone attempted to gain entry to the home by kicking the front door. However, the individuals did not gain access to the home.
12:14 a.m. - A resident of Old Nahant Road reported that someone threw rocks at her door.
1:49 a.m. - An operator and a passenger of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident on I-95 in Wakefield ran away from the accident on foot and ran onto North Ave. State Police located and arrested the two on Brook Street.
8:23 a.m. - An Oak Street resident reported that someone had thrown a rock through a window in her home overnight.
10:58 a.m. - A Charles Street resident reported that someone threw a rock through the front window of his car, a 2005 Honda Civic.
11:30 p.m. - Wakefield Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Richardson Avenue apartment. However, police determined it was a verbal altercation and no charges were pressed.
