Police Log: Feb. 9: Alleged Five-Time OUI Offender Arrested, Found with Beer Can in Pocket

4:32 p.m. - Wakefield Police arrested a four-time OUI offender for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol in Wakefield, making this his alleged fifth offense - and found an open beer can stashed inside his pocket, according to police.
Scott Bergholtz, 48 of Rockport, MA was pulled over on Audubon Road after Wakefield Police received a call from a Salem Street gas station reporting a man who seemed intoxicated had just filled up his tank and drove away in a gray Mercury. A be on the lookout call was put out to all Wakefield police, and officers located the vehicle on Audubon Road in Wakefield.
Police administered field sobriety tests and determined that Bergholtz was intoxicated, according to the report. During the arrest, police also noticed an open can of beer sticking out of Bergholtz's pocket, they said. He will appear in Malden District Court to face the charge of a fifth offense of OUI, a conviction of which carries a minimum of two years in jail and lifetime loss of license. He will also be charged with possessing an open container of alcohol in his motor vehicle.

Other Incidents:
3:56 p.m. - Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a Salem Street residence. A male party reported his girlfriend was attempting to kick down his door. Police responded and allowed the female to retrieve some belongings, then separated the two for the rest of the evening. No charges will be pressed at this time.
6:54 p.m. - A man walked in to the Wakefield Police Station to report he could not locate his vehicle, which had been parked in the Lakeside Office Park parking lot. Police were able to locate the car in the lot.
10:02 p.m. - A caller reported that one of his delivery drivers was harrassed by a man in another motor vehicle with a laser pointer that was pointing the laser at the delivery driver. The driver reported having to come to an abrupt stop because his vision was blocked. The driver reported seeing the man exit the car and continue to point the laser pointer at passing cars and reportedly challenged the driver to a fight. Police searched the area but were unable to locate any suspects.
9:30 p.m. - Wakefield Police were asked to assist with the escort of troops returning from Afghanistan to Camp Curtis Guild in Reading, MA. To see photos of Wakefield soldiers that returned, click here.
11:06 p.m. - Wakefield Police arrested Andrino Mendez, 26, of Lynn, MA on two outstanding warrants for motor vehicle charges and two additional driving-related charges. Police on patrol in the area of Richardson Street said they noticed a blue Honda Civic swerve across the yellow line, so they enacted a traffic stop in the parking lot at McDonald's on Main Street. During the investigation, police determined the driver, Mendez, did not possess a valid driver's license, and had two other warrants for his arrest. He will appear in Malden District Court to face charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a marked lanes violation, and two other motor vehicle infractions.
Friday, Feb. 10:
7:12 a.m. - A truck struck a light pole on Albion Street. Police had no further information to report at this time.
