PHOTOS: Lady Warriors Basketball Falls to Reading

The Wakefield High girls basketball team couldn't hang with powerful Reading High on the road Friday night.

READING—The Wakefield High girls basketball team ran into tough times on Friday night in the form of the Boston Globe’s third-ranked squad, the Lady Rockets of Reading High. 

The Lady Warriors proved no match for undefeated Reading and succumbed 68-25 at Hawkes Field House.

Not only have the Lady Rockets been winning this year, but Wakefield’s neighbors from the Middlesex League Large School Division have been dominating, securing victories by an average of 33.5 points per game.

Sophomore guard Kristie McNall led the Lady Warriors with six points, while senior captain Danielle Joly added five. Juniors Lorrin Taliaferro and Kristin Callahan each posted three points, while Amanda Ingalls, Nicole Galli, Karina Vargas-Aquino and Rachel Hamilton all added two points.

Reading got off to a good start, taking a 14-6 lead into the start of the second stanza and were able to stretch their advantage to 19 points by the halftime whistle, taking a 30-11 lead into the locker room.

Wakefield looked like they had some fight left in them at the start of the third, embarking on a 6-0 run to begin the second half, but the Lady Rockets thoroughly thwarted any thoughts of a comeback and held the Lady Warriors to a total of 14 second half points while dropping 38 themselves.

Wakefield was limited to just three fourth quarter points.
