The single-car crash happened Wednesday at 4 a.m. on Treble Cove Road in Billerica.
Massachusetts State Police are investigating a single-car crash involving a Middlesex County Sheriff's Department vehicle, killing the driver, a Middlesex County Corrections officer.
The single-car crash happened Wednesday at 4 a.m. on Treble Cove Road in Billerica.
The Middlesex County Sheriff's office identified the deputy as Edward "Teddy" Dillon III, 27, of Lowell.
Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian released the following statement about Dillon's death: "My thoughts and prayers, as well as those of the entire Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, go out to Officer Dillon’s family, friends and colleagues. We know the work of correction officers is difficult and dangerous, but that does nothing to ease the pain and shock when we lose one of our own. The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office will work to ensure that our officers and the Dillon family have the support they need as we grieve Teddy’s passing."
Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio, in a statement, said a state police crash reconstruction team has been sent to the scene of the crash, but that no other details were being released.
Fox25 reported the police cruiser sustained heavy front-end damage.
There is no word on the cause of the accident.

now that we know this man killed himself with a gun shot wound to the head, why didn't he use his own car on his own time? We know the state has no money and now he wrecked a cruiser and hey one moment. Why was he doing a cofee run in a dept. car?
