Linden Tree Coffeehouse Presents Mary McCaslin Saturday Night

The Linden Tree Coffeehouse is pleased to announce the return of folk favorite Mary McCaslin at the Linden Tree Coffeehouse on Saturday, December 8th at 8:00.  Accompanying her will be singer-songwriter Rick Shea who has been touring with Mary bringing songs from the legendary Jim Ringer as well as many of their own favorites from their individual recordings.

NEW ENGLAND FOLK ALMANAC wrote "McCaslin's real-life western songs and earthy romanticism were profoundly influential among songwriters in the '70s.Too often overlooked is the great impact her guitar and banjo playing also had on the acoustic scene."

Mary McCaslin and the late Jim Ringer first met in the summer of 1972 at the legendary folk music camp / retreat called Sweet’s Mill, in the Sierra foothills above Fresno, California. Both were pursuing solo careers, and making recordings, though they began touring the country and performing together – each doing a set, then closing their shows with a duet performance. Eventually, they recorded the album, “The Bramble & the Rose”, which became a hallmark of folk duet recordings. This album (originally on vinyl and now on CD) contained both traditional and contemporary material.

Now, Mary will be re-acquainting listeners with selections from “The Bramble & the Rose” – this time with singer-songwriter Rick Shea, who is an authentic country–folk artist in much the same fashion as Ringer. Shea toured as a multi-instrumentalist sideman for Dave Alvin’s band, The Guilty men, along with opening the shows. He played on Alvin’s Grammy wining recording “Public Domain”. Influenced by country singers Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and Lefty Frizzell, his recordings have received accolades from publications such as Dirty Linen"- a sage writer, warmly expressive singer and exquisite player."

 Thanks to support in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Wakefield Council, tickets will be $16, students under 13 $10. Home made baked goods and beverages will be sold prior to the show and during intermission.
